NFB News Alert-1: Spl students to get exam exemptions 9.11.2022

Hyderabad: In a move that can boost educational needs of Children with Special Needs (CwSN), the Telangana government will provide exemptions and concessions to those studying under the state syllabus.

This was announced through a government order issued on November 7. According to it, their pass marks will be reduced from 35 to 20 in all subjects from classes 6 to SSC public exams, this academic year onwards. For students with mental illness, the pass mark will be further lowered to 10.

These category of children will include those with cerebral palsy, dwarfism, muscular dystrophy, acid attack victims, those with permanent physical impairment, visual impairment, hearing impairment, mental illness, among other conditions.

The GO stated that students with some specific disabilities will be given exemption for the purpose of valuation, certain grammatical mistakes, punctuation errors, graphs, geometry and maps will be ignored, wherever necessary.

For children with physical disabilities, exemption from studying and appearing in any one language out of the three will also be provided.

The CwSN will get additional time of 20 minutes for each hour in the examination.
