After plaint from disabled, lift to govt office starts dtd. 25.4.22 (Advocacy)

Panaji: A non-functional lift at the office of the civil registrar cum sub registrar in Morod, Mapusa has been made operational after a Siolim resident complained and a notice was issued by the office of the state commissioner for persons with disabilities.

The state disabilities’ office issued a notice on March 16 directing the government to ensure the lift is working for use by persons with disabilities within 10 days.
The commission also asked for a report before March 31 and stated that in case of a default, the commission could proceed with action under the Rights of Persons with Disability (RPwD) Act 2016.
The Siolim resident had complained that the elevator in Essar trade centre has been “out of service for a long time causing inconvenience to visitors”, especially persons with disabilities who visit the sub registrar’s office on the second floor.
