CHANDIGARH: Punjab social security, women and child development minister Aruna Chaudhary on Tuesday said a 4% reservation quota for persons with disabilities (PwDs) in government jobs will be ensured.
The minister said out of 50,000 vacancies announced by the Punjab government to be filled in various departments this year, 2,000 posts would be filled by PwDs. Presiding over a meeting of the state advisory board (PwDs) at Punjab Bhawan, Chaudhary said the Punjab government had already enhanced social security pensions for all sections, including PwDs, from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500, which will be available from July 1. The minister directed officials to identify 35 acres for the stadium to be constructed for para players at the earliest, so construction of the stadium could be started soon.
The minister instructed officials to ensure implementation of provisions of disabled-friendly facilities for divyang persons and children in parks, bus stands and buses, and asked to submit a review report at the earliest, so facilities could be provided, where such amenities were not available. She asked authorities to send cases children and families who have lost their breadwinners to Covid for timely financial assistance and benefits of government schemes.
Chaudhary directed departments to expedite digitisation process of various cards for disabled such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan card and job card. She added the social security department had so far received a total 3,54,478 applications from unique disability ID (UDID), of which 2,11,848 cards had been made and remaining would be processed soon.
