Celebration of World Braille day at NFB Karnataka on 4th January 2021


Report  of  National Federation of the Blind Karnataka on celebration of world Braille day  held on 4th January 2021 Saturday at National Federation of the Blind, Bharatnagar 2nd phase Bangalore  dated 4th January 2021

World Braille day is celebrated annually in honor of birth of Louie Braille, inventor of “reading and writing system” used by millions of blind people all over the globe.

The World Braille day provides an opportunity to raise awareness about issues facing people with visual impairment.

National Federation of the Blind Karnataka believes that reading is a human right. The world commemorates this day to create awareness of our rights and to influence their inclusion and equal participation in main stream development.

“Even the united nations organisation has also declared to observe 4th January as world Braille Day”. 

National Federation of the blind Karnataka therefore takes this opportunity to hold a state level program to pay a befitting tribute to a great soul of Louie Braille.

The program was  a formal event for celebration of world Braille day to commemorate Louie Braille the  great. It was  continued from   3 to 6 PM and graced by various distinguished personality cross section of the society including  Sri. Muniraju hon’ble Director Directorate for empowerment of person with disability and Sr. citizen, Government of Karnataka, Sri. Sudhir Krishnaswamy hon’ble Vice chancellor National Law school of Indian university Bangalore, Sri. Santosha hon’ble Branch Manager Karnataka Bank, Herohalli Branch, Bangalore,  Famous Film Actor Sri. Doddanna S, Sri. Gourish Akki Journalist and Founder Director of Alma Media School

Several Awards and felicitations of excellence were extended to outstanding personalities that include the following

NFB Prathibha Award were  given to following four meritorious students

Ms. Apoorva Bahuali Thopagi  student of Sri Sharadadevi Special Residential School Shivamogga  who  secured 99% marks in SSLC Board Examination 2020

b. Mr. Abhiram Bhagavath   who secured 96.6% marks in PUC Board exam in 2020

c. Ms. Sujatha S. who secured 87.8% aggregated marks in graduation Exam 2020

d. Ms. Sumayya K    who secured 84.6% aggregated Marks in MA in English 2020

NFB Dignity of Community Samman 2019

Prof. Dasharath who has been designated as dean faculty in Bangalore University was felicitated with NFB Dignity of Community Award 2020

Two young sisters Ms. Rathnamma and Manjamma who have given remarkable performance in music program of Zee kannada SAREGAMAPA season 17 were also felicitated with NFB Dignity of Community Award 2020


Following three long time dedicated volunteers were honoured with NFB Shrest Manav Seva Samman

A most empowered of women member of the federation Mrs. Munirathnamma was honoured with NFB Karnataka most empowered visually impaired samman

Sr. Citizen Women Member of the federation Smt. Geethavani was felicitated with NFB Karnataka Sr. Citizen Women Member Samman

Sr. Citizen Member of the federation Sri Nagarajan   was felicitated with NFB Karnataka Sr. Citizen  Member Samman


Chief guest of the event Sri. Muniraju hon’ble Director Department for empowerment of differently abled and Sr. citizen  in his speech appreciated Role and activities of the federation for multidimensional empowerment of person with visual disability and also assured for effective and complete implementation of all schemes of the department before the expiry of running financial year.

Other distinguished guest including Sri. Sudhir Krishnaswamy hon’ble vice chancellor National Law School Bangalore, Sri. Gaurish Akki, Sri. Doddanna, Sri. Santosh Kumar and Dr. C.P. Charles are also expressed their satisfaction on the activities of the federation and also expressed their need based support to the federation in service of cause of this highly marginalised section of our society.

Prior begging of formal program the final round of state level music competition was also conducted in which all 6 finalist gave their best music performance and were awarded with first, second, third, fourth prizes and two consolation prize respectively. Winners of the competition were awarded with cash prize of Rs.4000/-, 3000/-, 2000/-, 1000/- for 1st, 2nd ,3rd and 4th and prize of Rs.500/- was given to each of two consolation prize winners.

Even on this occasion the youth secretary of the federation Sri. Manjunath was interviewed by DD chanadana channel in its phone in live program from 12 to 1 PM with the purpose of disseminating the wide range of informations among the common public relating the nature, utility and importance of braille script and availability of various facilities, concessions, services and opportunities for person with visual disability in public and private sector. The interview was appreciated by the public at large. 

At the same time youth coordinator of the federation Mr. Veeresh and president of the federation Sri. Nagaraj were  also interviewed in live phone in program of All India Radio from 1 to 1.30 PM
